We Need to Reform issues

  1. 1)      We need to look at the idea of following Americas lead and making the minimum drinking age 21, so as to burden Crime and NHS less
  2. 2)      We need to supply schools and youth organisations with Naloxone and the relevant training.  I would hope and pray that it would never need to be used, but if doing this saves 1 life then it is fully worth doing.  Furthermore we need to be realistic about the fact that peer pressure leads to younger and heavier drug use in the world we live in today.
  3. 3)      We need to reform our education around the subject of drink and drugs, as early as year 6 or 7.
  4. 4)      We need to re-debate minimum unit pricing of alcohol
  5. 5)      We need to address how alcohol is advertised and where in Supermarkets, for example in one set aisle not as soon as you walk in the door, besides food or at till points
  6. 6)      We need to label alcohol the same way we label boxes of cigarettes
  7. 7)      I want to see new technology attempt to reduce drink driving.  My suggestion is that on a car key fob we introduce a tiny breathalyser.  To open the car you blow a sample and if it is under safe limit the car opens.  If you are over the limit the car does not open.  If then the car is opened via another sample that is not in sync with the amount of time for the drink level to come back down to a safe level a GPS signal is sent to local traffic Police who can track the vehicle and carry out checks.
  8. 8)      We need to establish and fund Recovery Communities, 1 in at least each region of the United Kingdom if not every town or city, to build a solid backbone of recovery within the United Kingdom.
  9. 9)      Instead of cutting funding for services, we need to re-distribute taxes made via addictive manners, such as prescriptions, gambling and drinking, into  not only the recovery sector but also into mental health services.

Monday, new week last one before X'mas

Hi

Its Monday its a new week, the last full one before Christmas disrupts things for a week or so.  I've had another low and recuse weekend, although in a mad positive afternoon  yesterday I decided to home make from scratch mince pies for the first time.  They came out a little messy but very cheeky and naughty and festive so all is good.

I saw my mental health team this morning and we have decided to step up my treatment to a more powerful anti depressant in the aim of elevating the low a bit.  We have drawn up a program to get me off the current ones and onto the new ones, a transition period as it was.

Other then that Im working away on the book as ever and its getting there slowly but surely Im happy with progress.

Its Thursday! Update on the book & Im off to Liverpool tomorrow :)

Hi, How are you?  So it is Thursday, tomorrow will mark 40 weeks sober for me, YAY!

Also tomorrow Im off to the 'HIT' Conference in Liverpool which Im excited about, its all a learning curve and I love the networking and learning.

So let me update you on the book.  Im now about 14,000 words into the book.  Im trying to aim for 100,000 words and im not worried as I've made 14,000 words and feel like I've barley slipped out of first gear so far.  The words are flowing and my voice within the book and its message is getting stronger word by word, day by day.  Its all a process and at the moment it is about getting down everything I want to no matter how unstructured, scatty or imperfect in my first draft.  Once that is done we can start fine tuning the content and layout and getting it ready for an editor to work on before it is submitted to a publisher.  So far so good I would say, exciting times.

Yesterday was the National Conference in Bolton, Great Day, I met Johann Hari and others and im now 39weeks Sober!!

Im now 39 weeks sober!

I went to Bolton yesterday for the Addaction National Conference.  It was incredible networking and I met many several people.  One of which is an inspiration in terms of writing my book, the major Johann Hari.   He signed my copy of his book with a lovely message of support and then we met for a coffee and had a good chat and he offered me many words of advice.  I loved every second of it although after being awake for 39 hours or so im very tired.

Will write more on Monday x
